This years Christmas collaboration is going to be… “All I want for Christmas is you” – by Mariah Carey! (Submission deadline: 27th November)
For some context, here’s the video that we created last year, this year we want it to be just as big but even better! (We learned a lot about how to improve it this time around)
All the resources you should need can be found here
This involves:
- MP3 backing tracks in every scenario possible (if anything is missing please let me know)
- Music scores / tabs for drums, vocals, piano, guitar and bass
- Lyric sheets
- The folders have simplified versions, easier chords, melody only and full versions
- Drum tutors – here is the accompanying YouTube video for the PDF in your folder
Song info:
- The scores I’ve written are in the original key of G major
- If you want to change anything to further simplify please do so
- The outro “ad lib” section leans nicely to a solo, for those that have capable students, please encourage this!
- Please move the relevant files from the resources folder into the students own practice folders – please reach out if you struggle with this
How will it work? (and useful info)
- Using the new comment feature – when your student is ready to perform, notify us by adding the “All I want for Christmas is you video submission” comment, including what part of the lesson they performed it in the text box
- If possible, encourage the student to wear festive clothing – feel free to join them to make it extra fun for them!
- When they perform, please don’t share your sound or we won’t hear them – ideally get them to play the music themselves, what you hear in the Zoom lesson, is what we hear when we listen back to the recording.
- Please consider the end result, make sure they are nicely in shot, well lit and audible! – if their sound cuts out, please refer to the Zoom suppression settings blog and make sure if they are using a laptop or computer, these are applied.
- We will contact all the parents of those involved for consent to use the footage, we will edit out any names visible and make sure it adheres to all safeguarding rules.
- Students do not need to be able to play the whole song. As you will see from the previous shot, just a few bars (if that) will suffice.
- We want to involve as many students as possible, even though it’s a mammoth task in editing, we feel this will be good for retention and also for marketing to gain new students for you all in January.
- The deadline for this project is the 27th November (so we can send it out to all our schools and use for Christmas promo). We imagine submission will start to come in on the week commencing 15th and 22nd of November.
- It will be your responsibility to mention this to the students (we won’t promote it directly as to avoid disappointment)
Lastly, please have fun with this! We got such great feedback last time and that’s all down to you the tutors for engaging them with the project. Get them dancing, smiling and feeling festive!
